M&A Organic & AI Visibility Audit
A focused assessment of a brand’s search and AI visibility exposure, built for deal teams, advisers and operators who need a clear read on digital risk within a live transaction timeline.
Where you’re starting from
Why this, why me
I was the SEO lead on Grüns, a DTC supplement brand, in the weeks immediately before its acquisition by Unilever became public. That’s not a claim to having run due diligence on that transaction. It’s proximity: I know what a brand’s organic channel looks like under real commercial scrutiny, at the exact moment a deal is closing around it. Day to day, I work as a fractional SEO director for growth-stage Shopify and DTC brands, including portfolio-level audits for investors managing multiple consumer businesses. This audit applies the same diagnostic approach to a single, defined moment: before or after a transaction.
Consistent framework
Every audit covers revenue durability, technical and platform risk, AI visibility exposure, content and authority durability, and operational transferability.
What’s assessed
The scope stays consistent across pre- and post-deal engagements. What changes is how the findings get used: to inform a decision, to strengthen a sale, or to build a roadmap.
01 - Revenue
Revenue durability & concentration
Brand vs non-brand organic split; channel concentration and dependency; keyword and topic concentration; historical ranking volatility and penalty history.
02 - Technical
Technical & platform risk
Migration and replatforming history; crawl and index health; Core Web Vitals baseline; structured data integrity; platform-specific fragility, including app stack and dependencies.
03 - AI / GEO
AI & generative visibility exposure
Presence in AI-generated answers for category terms; citations routing to the brand versus third-party resellers; entity clarity and structured data for AI matching.
04 - Authority
Content & authority durability
Owned versus borrowed organic authority; backlink profile quality and concentration risk.
05 - Continuity
Operational transferability
Whether SEO knowledge is documented or held by one person or agency; whether tooling and tracking infrastructure survives a change of ownership intact.
